Using the Grants.gov PureEdge Viewer on Non-Windows Environments

At this time, the Grants.gov PureEdge Viewer is only available for the Windows platform. Grants.gov has acknowledged that a signifigant segment of the grant applicant community uses an alternative operating system and has made available a means to which these users can run the PureEdge Viewer.

We have comprised a set of instructions in order to aid non-windows users in using the Citrix Client to connect to the Grants.gov servers.

1. Downloading and Installing the Citrix Client
   The Citrix Client is available for many operating systems. To download the client visit the client download page. You only need to install the recommended version for a specific OS. All updates have been rolled up into that version. If you already have a version of Citrix client on your computer, you should uninstall it and install the latest version.
2. Downloading the Connection (ICA) File
   We are providing a custom connection file that corrects a bug in the file available from Grants.gov. You can download this file here (right-click or control-click and Save As) and save it to your computer.
3. Running the Client and Connecting to Grants.gov
   Run the Citrix Client application. From within the application, open the ICA file that you downloaded in the previous step.
   

   The application will begin the connection process to the Grants.gov server:

   

   Click OK to the warning message:

   

   You are presented with an Internet Explorer window. To open a PureEdge document Click on File > Open > Browse...

   

   Switch to the C: Drive

   

   A confirmation box will pop up to allow citrix to access your local files. Click Allow.

   

   The C: Drive is mapped to your local home directory. Be sure to place any documents that you would like to access from Citrix in this location. PureEdge form files carry the extension of .XFD. To view these you must change the Files of Type filter to All Files.

   

   Locate the file and open it. The PureEdge form will be displayed inside the browser window:

   
4. Final Notes
   Be sure to save you work often. A Citrix session is a network connection across the Internet to a distant server. As with any network connection, it is subject to drops and loss of service. Some investigators have reported incidents where an idle Citrix session will "lock" or time-out, resulting in a loss of all unsaved work. Be sure to save your work before stepping away from your computer.
